The colour is pale copper, with delicate, very persistent bubbles. On the nose a lively bouquet of white peach, green apple and citrus zest. In the mouth crisp and vibrant. The finish is clean and refreshing, with a lingering saline edge that invites another sip.
L’Esquisse Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs is made with Famille Moussé estate’s younger vines, blending 70% Pinot Meunier and 30% Pinot Noir (with slight variations across vintages, such as 72% Meunier and 28% Pinot Noir in this 2022 base). Sourced from the clay-limestone terroirs of Cuisles, Jonquery, and Châtillon-sur-Marne, this cuvée is designed for immediate enjoyment, emphasizing fruit-forward vibrancy and remarkable drinkability. In the 2022 edition, 92% of the wines are from the 2022 vintage, 8% are reserve wines. The wine was fermented with native yeasts and aged in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak. The dosage was low: 1g/L.
Hailing from the Vallée de la Marne, where Pinot Meunier often takes center stage, this grower Champagne is a testament to the Moussé family’s dedication to organic and biodynamic viticulture.
For this bottle I paid 32.50 EUR at Les Caves du Forum in Reims.
