On the nose delicately perfumed, mineral-rich with citrus and herbal accents. In the mouth as elegant as on the nose, with a soft acidity and a clean, fairly long, finish. The wine has probably been enriched by the prolonged lees contact.
This varietal wine is made with Godello, a white grape variety thought to be indigenous of Galicia, Continue reading “Valdesil Godello Sobre Lias 2015”
Oak, oak and oak. This Toro DO wine is dominated by, you probably guessed it, oak. Not too surprising, given the fact that the wine spends 24 months in French and American oak. What is more astonishing is the fact that the wine lacks the matter necessary to keep up with the prolonged contact with the wood.
Very tempting and opulent aroma of ripe fruits. Red fruits dominate: raspberries, strawberries and cherries, but some black berries are also clearly detectable. Surprisingly, given the 14.5% alcohol and the 20 months spent in oak, neither the wood nor the alcohol spoils the olfactory experience.
On the nose very clean and linear, with an appealing aroma of sweet raspberry. Nothing more, nothing less. In the mouth rather light, but filling and elegant, with soft but firm tannins and a good acidity. The aftertaste is neither long nor rich, but nevertheless enjoyable. Overall a rather simple, but pleasant wine.
The aroma is dominated by baked berries, combined with some prunes. The 15% alcohol content is a bit prickly to the nose.
On the nose I can detect some pears and apple, but not much and not much more. In the mouth the wine quickly disappears. It lacks freshness and seems exhausted. I wonder if something is wrong with the specific bottle. On the other side, the couple of Cava I tried in the past didn’t impress me neither. The wine sells at Coop for 15 CHF.
Elegant and well balanced, as the name let you expect. On the nose red fruits, with some spicy notes. In the mouth discrete, with a pleasant acidity that follows you in the aftertaste. The high alcohol content (15%) gets completely undetected, both on the nose and in the mouth. One more sign of a well achieved equilibrium.
