The nose is dominated by smoky notes. In the mouth the wood overpowers with disturbing tannins, that accompanies you till the end and leaves you with a dry feeling. With later sips some fruit come forward, but overall the wine is overshadowed by the oak. Continue reading “Château la Tour Carnet 2013”

Clos Triguedina 2013
13 December 2017
This traditional Cahors, is a blend of Malbec (85%), Merlot (13%) and Tannat (2%).
Although it is now the iconic grape variety of Argentina, Malbec is native to this region of southwestern France. In the AOC Cahors wines, Malbec must constitute at least 70 percent of the blend. Continue reading “Clos Triguedina 2013”
Sassicaia 2010
15 October 2017
On the nose smell of barnyard and dairy products, at first. With time some more pleasant undergrowth notes appear. In the mouth not much beside astringency, thin and absolutely disappointing.
Maybe still too young, maybe already past its prime, maybe not a very good vintage. Continue reading “Sassicaia 2010”
J. Drouhin Volnay 2012
1 October 2017
At first no much sensations, neither on the nose nor in the mouth. After some time it opens up and delivers some strawberries notes.
Overall this Pinot Noir is unappealing and the experience pretty disappointing, especially for a 50 CHF bottle. Continue reading “J. Drouhin Volnay 2012”

The wine is made with Nero di Troia grapes: Troia being the town of the Odyssey, where the grape supposedly originated from; Nero referring to the intense ruby color, almost black. Continue reading “Ottagono 2013”
Sciala 2015
6 August 2017
I received this late harvest Vermentino di Gallura as a present. I didn’t it know it, but I hear it is widely praised and judged as one of the best in its class.
The nose makes me build up expectations: it is very appealing. Continue reading “Sciala 2015”
Domaine Mercouri 2015
16 July 2017
A pleasant basic red wine made with Refosco (of Italian origin) and (indigenous) Mavrodaphne grapes. This is the main red wine produced by Mercouri Estate, a very charming property located close to the port of Katakolo.
I discovered this family owned estate, established in 1864, last year while cruising. Continue reading “Domaine Mercouri 2015”
Luccarelli Old Vines 2015
9 July 2017
From 60 years old vines. Powerful, fruity and fairly persistent. Unfortunately, it doesn’t suit my taste.
In my opinion the Primitivo grape has some clear limits on how far it can go in producing good wines. The very old vines make this Primitivo di Manduria special. Continue reading “Luccarelli Old Vines 2015”
